A DIRECT RV SELLING OPTION
Sell Your Louisiana RV Without Starting With a Public Listing
An RV sale can begin in several ways. You might advertise the vehicle yourself, ask a dealership about consignment, trade it toward another RV, or contact a company that purchases recreational vehicles directly.
RVBuyerUSA offers the direct-purchase option. We have been buying RVs since 2008 and accept inquiries from Louisiana owners throughout the state, including smaller communities and rural parishes.
Tell us what you own, its condition, and where it is parked. We will review the information to determine whether a purchase may be possible.
Direct RV Buying Compared With Listing Privately
A private listing allows you to set an asking price and negotiate with buyers. It also means handling advertisements, questions, showings, payment verification and the eventual transfer of ownership.
Consignment shifts some marketing responsibilities to a dealership or consignment provider, usually under a separate agreement that may involve commissions and other terms. A trade-in can make sense when you are purchasing another RV.
A direct buyer evaluates whether it can purchase the vehicle itself. That approach may avoid the need to advertise to individual buyers, although a direct offer is not guaranteed to exceed what you could obtain through a private sale.
With RVBuyerUSA, you can request an evaluation without paying an inquiry fee or committing to a transaction.
Each RV Is Reviewed on Its Own Merits
The model year alone does not determine whether an RV can be purchased. Mechanical problems, living-area condition, title status, location and transport requirements can all matter.
A working motorhome with service records presents different considerations from a fifth wheel that has remained stationary for several years.
We review the details of the particular RV. If an offer is possible, you decide whether to accept it.
PREPARE YOUR INQUIRY
What Information Helps Us Evaluate Your RV?
You can begin with basic information. The initial form is short, but accurate details make follow-up discussions more useful.
You do not have to know every technical specification before sending an inquiry.
RV Identity, Mileage and Equipment
Provide the year, manufacturer and model. Identify whether the vehicle is a Class A, Class B or Class C motorhome, camper van, travel trailer, fifth wheel, toy hauler or another type.
For a motorhome, include the approximate mileage if known. Mention the chassis or engine type if you know it, particularly for larger diesel motorhomes.
Details such as overall length, slide-outs and generator equipment may also be helpful during further evaluation.
Operating Condition and Known Problems
Explain whether a motorhome starts and drives. For a towable RV, describe whether the tires, wheels, brakes and hitch appear suitable for movement.
Mention problems you already know about, such as a leaking roof, soft flooring, failed air conditioning, electrical faults, damaged slide-outs or previous collision repairs.
If you have not tested a system recently, say that it has not been tested rather than describing it as operational.
Ownership Documents and Actual Location
State whether you have the title, whether multiple owners are listed, and whether a lender holds a lien.
Provide the ZIP Code where the RV is physically located. An RV stored near Lafayette might belong to someone who lives in New Orleans, so the owner’s residential ZIP Code may not identify the collection location.
Tell us whether the RV is at a house, commercial storage facility, campground, repair shop or rural property.
Useful Details to Have Ready
- Year, make, model and RV category
- Mileage for motorized RVs, if known
- Starting, driving or towing condition
- Roof, interior, appliance and structural issues
- Known flood, collision or storm-related damage
- Current physical ZIP Code
- Title availability and outstanding financing
- Access restrictions or storage requirements
Photographs may help with further review. If requested, provide clear images of the RV’s exterior, main living area and known damage. Do not climb onto an unsafe roof or operate damaged equipment simply to obtain photographs.

LOUISIANA STORAGE AND ACCESS
Where Your RV Is Stored Can Affect the Sale
Louisiana RVs are parked in a variety of settings, from residential driveways and commercial storage yards to campgrounds and rural properties.
The condition of the RV is one part of the review. The ability to access and move it can also affect the arrangements required for an agreed purchase.
Driveways and Residential Properties
An RV parked at home may have limited clearance along fences, trees or neighboring structures.
Tell us if another vehicle blocks the exit, the driveway has a sharp turn, or there is insufficient space for the equipment that could be needed to move a non-running RV.
A location that is easy to reach on foot is not always easy to access with a towing vehicle.
Commercial and Gated Storage Lots
A secured storage facility may have opening hours, appointment requirements, gate access procedures or outstanding account charges.
Owners should verify that the vehicle can be released and that authorized personnel can enter the property if a transaction is agreed upon.
It is useful to know whether the RV is parked in a covered bay, outdoor row or tightly spaced storage area.
Campgrounds and Stationary Fifth Wheels
A travel trailer or fifth wheel may be connected to water, sewer and electricity, with stabilizers, steps, skirting or a deck installed around it.
Those items can require attention before the trailer is movable.
If the RV has not been towed recently, describe the condition of the landing gear, hitch, tires, brakes and other relevant equipment as accurately as possible.
Rural Land and Coastal Properties
Vehicles parked on family land or in less developed areas may have narrow drives, unpaved access roads, soft ground or limited turning room.
Known coastal storm exposure, corrosion or flooding may be relevant to the vehicle’s condition, but no particular problem should be assumed simply because the RV is in a coastal parish.
Describe the actual site and vehicle, not only the nearest city.
Storage note: Free towing is included with an agreed RV purchase. The specific transportation arrangements must be coordinated for the individual vehicle and location.
MOTORIZED AND TOWABLE RVS
RV Types We Consider Purchasing in Louisiana
RVBuyerUSA evaluates motorized and towable recreational vehicles. Each category has its own condition, equipment and transportation considerations.
Class A Motorhomes
Large motorhomes may have gasoline or diesel drivetrains, extensive electrical equipment, generators and multiple slide-outs.
Provide the chassis information if available, engine starting condition, mileage, transmission issues, tire condition and known roof or interior damage.
For an RV that cannot be driven, describe whether it can be accessed by appropriate transport equipment.
Class B Motorhomes and Camper Vans
Camper vans combine everyday vehicle components with compact living systems.
Engine condition, mileage, transmission performance, batteries, conversion equipment, roof fixtures and interior systems can all matter.
If the camper equipment was installed after manufacture, identify what you know about the conversion.
Class C Motorhomes
Class C motorhomes include both an automotive chassis and an attached living structure.
Useful details include engine and transmission condition, cab-over roof and wall integrity, slide-outs, plumbing, generator operation and the condition of the living area.
Mention any known moisture problems around the overhead bunk or exterior seams.
Travel Trailers
Travel trailers depend on a separate tow vehicle. Their purchase review therefore places additional attention on the frame, axles, tires, brakes, hitch and general towing condition.
The roof, flooring, appliances, plumbing and electrical systems are also relevant.
If the trailer has remained parked for years, identify the last time it was moved if you know.
Fifth Wheels
A fifth wheel may be longer and heavier than a typical travel trailer and requires compatible towing arrangements.
Describe the pin box, landing gear, tires, suspension, slide-outs, roof and flooring.
An RV used as a stationary residence may have site installations or other preparation needs before it can be moved.
Toy Haulers and Other RVs
Toy haulers combine residential features with a cargo area. The rear ramp, cargo flooring, frame, suspension and general interior condition can influence evaluation.
Other RV configurations may also be submitted. Acceptance is determined through an individual review rather than a guaranteed category-wide purchase policy.
RV CONDITION AND PURCHASE REVIEW
Damaged, Older and Non-Running RVs May Be Considered
An RV does not need to be in perfect condition for its owner to submit an inquiry.
We consider vehicles with various mechanical, cosmetic and structural problems. The nature of those problems can affect a proposed offer, transportation requirements or whether a purchase is possible.
Motorhomes With Mechanical Problems
A motorhome may have engine trouble, transmission faults, brake issues or a starting problem after an extended period in storage.
Explain whether the engine turns over, whether the RV moves under its own power, and whether major components are missing.
If you do not know the exact cause of a problem, a description of the symptoms is sufficient for the initial inquiry.
Roof Leaks, Flooring and Interior Systems
RVs can develop water intrusion around roof penetrations, windows, seams and slide-outs.
Stained walls or ceilings, soft flooring, damaged cabinetry and malfunctioning electrical equipment may indicate problems worth disclosing.
Tell us what is visibly affected and whether repairs have been attempted.
A roof leak does not automatically mean that the RV has a legally branded water-damage title.
Flood and Storm Damage
Some Louisiana RV owners have experienced severe weather or flooding. A vehicle’s actual history is more important than its geographic location.
If the RV was flooded, explain the approximate water exposure if known, which areas were affected, whether electrical or mechanical components were damaged, and what repairs were performed.
A prior insurance total loss or water-damage title brand should also be identified.
Known damage may affect an evaluation, and the applicable legal disclosure obligations still matter.
Tires, Axles, Hitches and Movement
For travel trailers and fifth wheels, flat or deteriorated tires, damaged axles, unusable brakes, missing components and landing gear problems can make movement more complicated.
A stationary trailer may need an assessment of its transport readiness before it can leave the property.
Do not attempt to tow an RV that appears unsafe to move merely to demonstrate that it is operational.
Salvage, Rebuilt and Other Branded Titles
Title branding may affect how an RV can be transferred, registered or used after purchase.
Tell us about known salvage, rebuilt, water-damage or other title designations.
The condition of the vehicle and its ownership documentation are both relevant. We do not guarantee purchase acceptance for any particular branded-title category.
Describe the RV You Actually Have
You do not need to describe an RV as being in excellent condition to request consideration. Accurate information about repairs, limitations, history and location helps both parties determine whether further discussion makes sense.
LOUISIANA OMV SELLER INFORMATION
Louisiana RV Titles, Liens and Seller Responsibilities
The Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles, or OMV, administers vehicle titling and registration.
Before completing an RV sale, owners should check the documents required for their particular vehicle and transaction. Motorhomes and towable trailers can have different identification, registration and odometer considerations.
This section is general seller guidance. It does not replace official OMV instructions for an individual transaction.
Louisiana Title Assignment and Ownership Signatures
A properly assigned certificate of title is fundamental to the ordinary transfer of a titled RV.
The Louisiana OMV lists a completed Vehicle Application, Form DPSMV1799, along with the current assigned title and any required supporting records for used-vehicle titling.
The assignment must properly identify the seller and buyer, and the relevant sales information and signatures must be completed according to the applicable requirements.
Louisiana has specific notarization and acknowledgment requirements. OMV accepts certain properly notarized transaction documents and recognizes limited alternative witnessing arrangements under stated conditions.
Do not assume that an unsigned bill of sale or two informal witness signatures can replace the required title assignment.
When multiple people are recorded as owners, the necessary signatures or authority must be established. If an owner is deceased, unavailable or represented by another person, additional ownership documentation may be required.
Official source: Louisiana OMV Used Title and Registration.
Lost Titles and Replacement Documents
If your RV’s original certificate of title is missing, the proper next step depends on whether it was lost, destroyed, never received, or never issued.
Louisiana OMV’s duplicate-title policy provides the procedure for replacing an eligible title. The recorded owner, authorized representative or lienholder may need to provide appropriate documentation.
A duplicate registration is not the same as a duplicate title.
Owners should not assume that a bill of sale or old registration will be accepted as sufficient ownership evidence for every RV transaction.
If your RV is titled in another state, its title history and the issuing state’s procedures may affect the available solution.
Official source: Louisiana OMV Vehicle Registration Requirements and Duplicate Titles Policy.
Outstanding Loans and Electronic Liens
An RV can have an outstanding loan even when the owner does not hold a paper title.
Louisiana supports electronic lien and title records. Depending on the transaction and lender, a recorded lien may need to be satisfied and properly released before a clean ownership transfer can be completed.
If the RV is financed, disclose that fact in the inquiry. The lender can provide the appropriate payoff and title-release information.
Do not assume that RVBuyerUSA automatically pays off every loan or that submitting an inquiry authorizes any lender transaction.

Motorhomes Compared With Travel Trailers and Fifth Wheels
Motorhomes are self-propelled motor vehicles. Travel trailers and fifth wheels are towable recreational vehicles with separate trailer registration and title considerations.
Louisiana publishes specific registration and plate classifications, including motorhome registration and different trailer plate durations.
Certain trailer plate types have different transfer rules. A permanent trailer plate should not automatically be assumed transferable to a purchaser.
The presence or absence of an engine does not, by itself, determine whether an RV needs ownership documentation.
A narrow Louisiana statutory procedure may apply to certain trailers never previously titled or licensed, but it is not a general shortcut for trailers with missing titles.
Official sources: Louisiana OMV Vehicle Registration, Title and Plate Fees and Louisiana OMV Vehicle License Plate Classifications.
Odometer Disclosure Requirements
Mileage disclosure is generally more relevant to motorhomes and camper vans than to travel trailers or fifth wheels.
Federal rules generally apply a 20-year disclosure period to covered motor vehicles from model year 2011 onward. Model year 2010 and earlier vehicles follow the older exemption framework.
Other exemptions can apply, including certain vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating over 16,000 pounds and vehicles that are not self-propelled.
A seller should not assume every large motorhome requires the same odometer disclosure as a passenger vehicle, or that a travel trailer must report mileage like a motorhome.
Even where a legal disclosure exemption applies, accurate available mileage can still help evaluate the RV.
Official source: Federal Odometer Disclosure Exemptions, 49 CFR 580.17.
Louisiana’s 15-Day Notice of Vehicle Transfer
Under Louisiana Revised Statutes 47:510(B), a person transferring a motor vehicle, trailer or semitrailer must give the commissioner written notice of the transfer within 15 days.
The OMV provides the Notice of Transfer of Vehicle form and an online Notice of Vehicle Transfer service.
Information commonly needed includes the vehicle identification number, plate and registration details, the buyer’s information, and the date of the transaction.
Submitting the notice flags the disposition of the vehicle in OMV records.
It is not the same as transferring title. The new owner must still complete the applicable title application process.
Official sources: Louisiana R.S. 47:510 and Louisiana OMV Notice of Vehicle Transfer.
Water Damage, Salvage and Nonrepairable Status
Louisiana’s OMV maintains separate policies relating to water-damaged vehicles, salvage vehicles, rebuilt salvage vehicles, and certificates of destruction.
These categories do not necessarily describe the same legal status.
A roof leak, a history of actual flooding, an insurance total loss and an existing branded title each need to be described accurately.
When an RV has known flood exposure or another condition subject to a legal disclosure requirement, the applicable documentation must be addressed. An owner should not conceal known damage or misrepresent title branding.
A vehicle classified under a destruction or nonrepairable procedure may have additional restrictions affecting future registration or transfer.
Official source: Louisiana OMV Vehicle Registration Policies, Including Water Damage and Salvage.
Louisiana Inspection and Emissions Considerations
Inspection requirements may depend on vehicle classification, registration location and applicable law.
Louisiana Act 701 of 2026 changes the state’s routine vehicle inspection framework, with important provisions scheduled to take effect January 1, 2027. Specific emissions-related and regulated vehicle requirements must still be considered.
The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality identifies Ascension, East Baton Rouge, Iberville, Livingston and West Baton Rouge as the five parishes in the Baton Rouge-area emissions inspection program.
The program’s published eligibility criteria include gasoline-powered vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating of 10,000 pounds or less, subject to the applicable rules.
A heavy diesel motorhome should not automatically be treated as an ordinary gasoline passenger vehicle for inspection purposes.
Inspect the currently applicable rules and any implementation changes before completing a vehicle transaction.
Official sources: Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality Motor Vehicle Inspection and Maintenance and Louisiana Act 701 of 2026.
Legal guidance note: The applicable documents depend on the RV’s existing title, recorded ownership, liens, classification and transaction. Confirm case-specific requirements with Louisiana OMV or an appropriately qualified professional before completing a sale.
FOUR CLEAR STEPS
How the RVBuyerUSA Purchase Process Works
The first step is an inquiry, not a binding sale.
Step 1 – Share Your RV Information
Complete the hero form with your contact details, RV year, make, model, and the ZIP Code where it is parked.
Describe known damage, title issues or access limitations in the optional message field.
Step 2 – We Review the Vehicle
RVBuyerUSA considers the supplied information and may request more details to determine whether a purchase is possible.
Every RV is evaluated individually. Some inquiries will not result in an offer.
Step 3 – Review Any Proposed Offer
If an offer is made, you can consider the proposed terms and decide whether they meet your needs.
The request is free, and there is no obligation to accept.
Step 4 – Arrange an Agreed Sale
If both parties agree to proceed, the necessary payment, ownership documentation and vehicle collection arrangements are coordinated.
Free towing is included with an agreed purchase. Timing and other details depend on the transaction.

STATEWIDE LOUISIANA COVERAGE
RV Purchase Inquiries Throughout Louisiana
We consider RV purchase inquiries from across Louisiana, not only from its major metropolitan areas.
The following regions help owners describe where their RVs are located and what practical circumstances might matter.
These are service inquiry regions, not physical RVBuyerUSA offices or promises of local pickup availability.
New Orleans and the Northshore
Communities: New Orleans, Metairie, Kenner, Slidell, Covington and Mandeville.
In Greater New Orleans and the Northshore, RVs may be parked at homes, secured storage facilities, repair yards or campground properties.
For a vehicle kept in a crowded or gated location, explain any restrictions that could affect inspection or removal after an agreed purchase.
Baton Rouge and the Capital Region
Communities: Baton Rouge, Denham Springs, Gonzales, Prairieville and Plaquemine.
The capital region includes suburban storage lots, residential properties and rural parking locations.
Mention whether a motorhome starts and can be moved, or whether a trailer has been stationary for an extended period.
Applicable emissions requirements for qualifying registered motor vehicles are separate from the purchase inquiry process.
Lafayette and Acadiana
Communities: Lafayette, Carencro, Opelousas, Breaux Bridge and New Iberia.
Travel trailers and fifth wheels may be parked at residences, outdoor lots or recreational properties in Acadiana.
For a towable RV, its hitch, tires, brakes and landing equipment are useful details, especially if it has not been transported recently.
Lake Charles and Southwest Louisiana
Communities: Lake Charles, Sulphur, Westlake and DeRidder.
Owners with RVs in Southwest Louisiana should mention any known storm, water or structural damage when relevant.
The region’s weather history does not establish the condition of an individual vehicle. Describe actual damage, repairs and known title history.
Houma, Thibodaux and the Bayou Region
Communities: Houma, Thibodaux, Morgan City and nearby Terrebonne, Lafourche and St. Mary parish communities.
Some RVs are kept on coastal or rural properties where site conditions can affect access.
Information about the driveway, surface conditions, obstructions and permission to enter the property may help determine what transport planning would be necessary.
Shreveport, Monroe and Central Louisiana
Communities: Shreveport, Bossier City, Monroe, West Monroe, Ruston, Alexandria, Pineville and Natchitoches.
In North and Central Louisiana, RVs may be located at private residences, commercial lots, repair facilities or rural properties.
You can submit an inquiry even if the RV is outside a major city. Include its actual ZIP Code, condition and location details.
Statewide coverage note: RVBuyerUSA evaluates RV purchase inquiries from all 50 states. Visit our nationwide RV buying coverage for additional state information.
