DIRECT RV PURCHASES
Sell Your Massachusetts RV Without Creating a Public Listing
Selling a motorhome or travel trailer privately can involve writing advertisements, answering questions from prospective buyers, arranging viewings and deciding how to handle payment and paperwork. Some owners want that process. Others would rather discuss a potential direct sale with an RV buyer.
RVBuyerUSA purchases recreational vehicles directly and has been buying RVs since 2008. We primarily work with private owners, and Massachusetts dealerships are also welcome to submit inquiries.
You can request a purchase review without first advertising your RV or paying a listing fee to RVBuyerUSA. Tell us what vehicle you own, what condition it is in and where it is currently located. We will consider whether a direct purchase may be possible.
An inquiry is free. There is no requirement to accept an offer, and not every RV submitted will qualify for purchase.
What to Include When You First Contact Us
Identify the RV
Provide the year, manufacturer, model and RV type. A floor plan, trim designation or approximate length can help distinguish similar vehicles.
Describe Its Current Condition
Explain whether a motorhome starts and drives, whether a trailer can be moved, and which living-space systems have known problems or have not been tested.
Give the Current Location
Use the Massachusetts ZIP code where the RV is actually parked. A home address, campground, storage facility and repair lot can involve different access requirements.
Clarify Ownership
Mention whether you have a title or other ownership records, whether multiple owners are listed and whether a lender still has an interest in the RV.
Accurate observations are more useful than confident guesses. You do not need to diagnose every mechanical fault or obtain a repair estimate simply to submit the initial inquiry.
For more information about factors that can affect a potential purchase offer, see Value My RV.
MASSACHUSETTS STORAGE AND ACCESS
Selling an RV After a Massachusetts Storage Season
Massachusetts RVs may spend part of the year in driveways, storage yards, campgrounds or enclosed buildings. A vehicle that has been parked through winter may need different preparation from one used regularly.
Winter storage alone does not mean an RV has a problem. What matters is its actual condition and whether you know of issues that affect operation, safety or collection.
Winterization, Water Lines and Tanks
If the RV was winterized, mention when that work was performed and whether the plumbing has been tested since. Known issues such as cracked fittings, leaking fixtures, damaged water lines or malfunctioning pumps should be described.
If the water system has not been tested since storage, say so rather than assuming it functions normally.
Tires, Batteries and Equipment After Storage
A long period without movement can leave questions about battery condition, tire pressure, tire age, brakes and equipment operation.
For motorhomes, explain when the engine was last run and whether the vehicle has been driven recently. For trailers, mention the condition of the hitch, tires, brakes, wheels and support equipment where known.
Do not attempt to move an RV that may be unsafe simply to demonstrate that it runs.
Driveways, Storage Gates and Campground Access
Where an RV is parked matters separately from whether it runs.
A large Class A motorhome in a narrow residential driveway may present clearance questions. A fifth wheel in a storage facility may require gate access or permission from the operator. A seasonal camper may need to be released from its site before collection can occur.
Report any known outstanding storage charges or access restrictions before an agreed purchase is finalized.
Rural Lots and Weather-Dependent Access
Some RVs are parked on gravel, grass or unpaved property. Access may depend on ground conditions, available turning space and whether suitable equipment can reach the vehicle.
If the RV is on a sloped property or an area that becomes difficult to access during wet or snowy conditions, mention that fact. Collection arrangements must be assessed for the individual location.
You do not need to arrange transportation simply to request an evaluation. If RVBuyerUSA agrees to purchase your RV, free towing is included with that purchase, subject to confirming practical collection arrangements.
RV CATEGORIES
Motorhomes, Travel Trailers and Other RVs We Consider
RVBuyerUSA evaluates multiple types of motorized and towable recreational vehicles. The information useful for one category may not be relevant to another, so describing the RV accurately helps the review.
Class A Motorhomes
Share the chassis, fuel type, mileage, overall length and driving condition. Known problems with the engine, transmission, brakes, generator, leveling equipment or slide-outs may be relevant.
Class B Motorhomes and Camper Vans
Identify the vehicle platform, conversion details, mileage and service history if known. Explain which camping systems were factory-installed or added later and whether their operation has been checked.
Class C Motorhomes
Include the driving condition, mileage and known cab or living-compartment problems. Roof seams, the cab-over sleeping area, moisture staining and structural repairs can be important details.
Travel Trailers and Fifth Wheels
Describe the trailer’s length, hitch or kingpin, landing gear, axles, brakes, roof condition and interior. Let us know if the unit has been stationary for years or if its towing equipment is damaged.
Toy Haulers and Other Recreational Vehicles
For a toy hauler, report the condition of the loading ramp, cargo area, flooring, tie-downs and related equipment. Other RV categories may also be submitted for individual consideration.
A travel trailer or fifth wheel can have different Massachusetts title requirements from a motorhome. Vehicle classification and ownership documentation are covered in the Massachusetts RMV section below.
RV CONDITION AND REVIEW
How Condition Affects a Possible Massachusetts RV Purchase
The appearance of an RV is only one part of its condition. A motorhome may look well maintained but have serious drivetrain problems. A trailer may have cosmetic wear but usable living-space equipment. Neither example determines whether a purchase will be possible.
RVBuyerUSA considers every RV individually, including inquiries involving damage or non-running vehicles. The following details can help us understand the particular RV.
Engine, Transmission and Driving Condition
For a motorhome, explain whether it starts, idles, shifts and moves under its own power. Describe any known warning lights, overheating, leaks, brake concerns or extended periods without driving.
Roof, Walls and Moisture
Tell us about roof leaks, water staining, soft flooring, delamination, window leaks and any known repairs. Mention whether the issue is active, previously repaired or not fully investigated.
Wheels, Suspension and Towing Components
Report flat or damaged tires, missing wheels, axle damage, suspension problems, hitch defects and landing gear issues. These can affect whether an RV can be moved safely.
Living-Space Systems
Identify known issues with plumbing, appliances, air conditioning, heating, electrical systems, batteries, refrigerators, generators and slide-outs. It is acceptable to explain that certain systems are untested.
Accident or Significant Damage
Describe known collision, fire, flood, storm or structural damage. If the vehicle has an insurance total-loss history or a branded title, identify the documented status rather than relying on appearance alone.
Ownership and Transportation Needs
The review may also consider the registered owners, existing liens, available records, location and practical access. A non-running motorhome and an otherwise movable trailer can require different collection methods.
An evaluation may consider the year, make, model, age, condition, configuration, mileage where applicable, ownership records and transportation circumstances. A potential direct-purchase offer is not the same as a retail asking price, an insurance valuation or a certified appraisal.
Not sure what is wrong with the RV? Describe what you have observed. A statement such as “The engine turns over but does not start” or “The water pump has not been tested since last winter” is more useful than an unsupported diagnosis.
MASSACHUSETTS OWNERSHIP DOCUMENTS
Massachusetts RV Title and Ownership Checklist
Before completing a sale, it is useful to know which documents exist for your RV and whether any issue needs attention. Massachusetts rules differ according to the type of vehicle, its title status and the circumstances of the transaction.
You do not need to complete an ownership transfer before asking RVBuyerUSA to evaluate your RV. Start by identifying your existing records and any outstanding questions.
1. Check Your Certificate of Title and Listed Owners
For a Massachusetts motorhome or trailer that is legally required to be titled, the Certificate of Title identifies the vehicle and its recorded ownership.
Compare the vehicle identification number with the RV itself, check the names of the listed owners and determine whether a lienholder appears on the record.
At an applicable transfer, Massachusetts requires the proper assignment of title. The seller and buyer must complete the relevant information and signatures. The RMV’s transaction guidance also identifies sale details and mileage information where applicable.
The RMV generally requires applicable vehicles to be titled within 10 days of purchase. That is a buyer-side title requirement, not an instruction for sellers to transfer their title before an offer is accepted.
Official guidance: Massachusetts RMV Vehicle Certificate of Title and Registration and Title for an Individual Purchase.
2. Determine Whether a Travel Trailer Requires a Title
Massachusetts makes an important distinction for lighter trailers. According to the RMV, a trailer with a gross vehicle weight rating of 3,000 pounds or less is exempt from Massachusetts certificate-of-title requirements.
A trailer with a GVWR above that threshold is generally subject to the applicable title requirements unless another exemption applies.
The trailer’s GVWR is a rating, not simply the weight of the trailer when empty. Check the manufacturer’s identification plate or available records instead of estimating the rating from its length or appearance.
A title-exempt trailer is not the same as a titled trailer whose certificate has been lost. If no title was required, ask the RMV what ownership and registration evidence applies to the particular transaction.
Official guidance: Massachusetts RMV Title Requirements.
3. Identify a Missing Title or Outstanding Loan
If your RV was issued a paper title and that document is missing or damaged, Massachusetts provides a replacement-title procedure.
A replacement application can require additional documentation where a lender was previously recorded. If a loan has been paid off but the title is unavailable, the RMV directs owners to obtain acceptable lien-release evidence from the lienholder.
If money is still owed, tell RVBuyerUSA that there is an existing loan. Identify the lender and confirm the approximate outstanding balance if known.
Having a loan does not prevent you from submitting an inquiry. However, an actual purchase must address the lienholder’s interest and any agreed payoff arrangements before the ownership transfer is completed.
Do not assume RVBuyerUSA provides a specific loan-payoff service unless that arrangement has been confirmed for the transaction.
Official guidance: Replace a Paper Certificate of Title.
4. Understand Massachusetts Electronic Titles
Massachusetts introduced Electronic Vehicle Certificate of Title, or E-Title, on October 26, 2026.
The RMV permits eligible owners to hold an electronic title and provides an online transfer process for qualifying private sales between individuals.
That online person-to-person process has restrictions. The buyer and seller must meet the RMV’s eligibility requirements, and a sale to a business is not eligible for that particular private-sale transfer process. Trailers are also excluded from the online person-to-person E-Title transfer method.
If you hold an E-Title and are considering selling your RV to RVBuyerUSA, identify that fact when discussing the ownership documents. The appropriate transfer method must be confirmed for the actual buyer and transaction.
Do not assume that a transfer between two private individuals and a purchase by an RV-buying business use the same electronic procedure.
Official guidance: E-Title Benefits and Eligibility and Buy or Sell Using an E-Title Transfer.
5. Check Mileage, Inspections and Registration Status
For a motorhome, the recorded odometer reading can be an important part of an ownership transfer. Applicable federal and state disclosure requirements depend on the vehicle and any exemptions.
Federal odometer disclosure rules generally distinguish model year 2010 and older vehicles from newer vehicles covered by the extended 20-year disclosure period. Other exemptions may apply. Towable trailers do not have the same mileage disclosure circumstances as self-propelled vehicles.
Massachusetts also requires covered registered motor vehicles to undergo periodic safety inspections and applicable emissions testing. Newly registered motor vehicles generally require inspection within seven days of registration.
A privately used recreational trailer should not automatically be treated as a commercial trailer. Commercial inspection rules may depend on use and weight ratings.
If your motorhome has an expired inspection sticker or an unresolved inspection problem, disclose that fact. An expired inspection does not by itself establish whether RVBuyerUSA can or cannot purchase the RV.
Official guidance: Massachusetts Vehicle Inspections and NHTSA Odometer Disclosure Information.
6. Address Registration, Excise and Salvage Status
After a completed sale, a Massachusetts seller may need to cancel or transfer the vehicle registration as appropriate.
The RMV provides an online registration cancellation service and issues a cancellation receipt. Massachusetts does not generally require cancelled plates to be physically returned to the RMV. The seller should keep the appropriate records and follow the RMV’s current instructions.
A former owner who no longer owns a registered vehicle or trailer may qualify for a local motor vehicle excise abatement. Eligibility requires more than cancellation alone. The relevant local board of assessors determines the supporting requirements.
If your motorhome has been declared a total loss or has a salvage or parts-only title, tell us about the documented status. Massachusetts distinguishes vehicles that may qualify for reconstruction from parts-only vehicles that cannot be registered in the state. The RMV’s salvage procedures also contain exemptions, including for trailers.
Physical damage and title branding should be described separately. A damaged RV is not necessarily legally classified as salvage.
Official guidance: Cancel Massachusetts Vehicle Registration, Motor Vehicle Excise and Total Loss and Salvage Vehicles.
This checklist is general seller preparation information. The Massachusetts RMV, relevant government agencies and the actual transaction documents determine which requirements apply to a particular RV.
FROM FIRST CONTACT TO POSSIBLE SALE
How a Massachusetts RV Purchase Inquiry Works
A direct-purchase inquiry allows you to explore a possible sale without creating a public listing or committing to sell your RV.
Step 1 – Submit Your RV Information
Use the form at the top of this page to enter your contact details, year, make, model and Massachusetts ZIP code.
Include known mechanical concerns, damage, storage limitations or ownership questions in the Message field if useful.
The request is free.
Step 2 – We Review the Individual RV
RVBuyerUSA considers the information provided to determine whether a direct purchase may be possible.
Additional photographs, vehicle details, documentation or a condition review may be requested.
An inquiry does not guarantee that an offer will be available.
Step 3 – Consider Any Proposed Offer
If RVBuyerUSA can make an offer, you can review its terms before deciding whether to proceed.
Confirm any conditions affecting the purchase amount, required documentation, existing liens and vehicle collection.
You are under no obligation to accept.
Step 4 – Coordinate an Agreed Sale
If you accept an offer and the transaction proceeds, the relevant payment, ownership documents and collection arrangements must be confirmed.
Free towing is included with an agreed purchase. Collection must still account for the RV’s condition and location.
No universal payment or pickup deadline is promised.

STATEWIDE INQUIRIES
RV Purchase Inquiries Across Massachusetts
RVBuyerUSA considers purchase inquiries from owners throughout Massachusetts. You do not need to live near a particular company office to request an evaluation.
The regional examples below describe where RVs may be located. They are not RVBuyerUSA branch locations, proof of past transactions or promises of local collection availability on a specific date.
Greater Boston and the North Shore
RV owners in Boston, Cambridge, Quincy, Lynn, Salem, Peabody, Gloucester and nearby communities may submit motorhomes and towable RVs for consideration.
Large vehicles parked near closely spaced buildings, in commercial storage or along narrow access roads may require particular attention to turning space and overhead clearance.
Tell us where the RV is actually parked and whether there are known restrictions on access.
Worcester County and Central Massachusetts
Inquiries may come from Worcester, Shrewsbury, Fitchburg, Leominster, Gardner, Sturbridge and surrounding communities.
An RV may be kept at a residence, a storage facility or a rural property. If it has remained parked through several seasons, mention whether it has been operated recently and which equipment has been tested.
Access and condition should be explained individually rather than assumed from the town.
Pioneer Valley and the Berkshires
RVBuyerUSA also considers inquiries from Springfield, Chicopee, Holyoke, Northampton, Amherst, Pittsfield, North Adams and nearby western Massachusetts communities.
Some vehicles may be stored on rural lots or properties with steep or unpaved access. If that describes your RV, explain the available access route and any known obstacles.
A motorhome that cannot be driven and a trailer that cannot be safely connected may require different collection arrangements.
South Coast and Plymouth County
Owners in New Bedford, Fall River, Taunton, Plymouth and surrounding towns may request an evaluation.
Whether an RV is kept in a residential driveway, a campground or a storage lot, access and vehicle condition matter more than the municipality alone.
Mention known issues involving moisture, corrosion or long-term storage if they actually affect your RV.
Cape Cod
Massachusetts RV owners in Barnstable, Hyannis, Falmouth, Sandwich, Yarmouth, Dennis, Harwich and other Cape Cod communities may submit inquiries.
Seasonal campground locations, storage facilities and property access rules can become important when planning an agreed collection.
If your RV is stored at a seasonal site, identify whether the facility has release procedures, seasonal access dates or outstanding charges.
Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket
RVs located on the islands may also be submitted for individual review.
Island collection is not equivalent to ordinary mainland pickup. Ferry reservations, vehicle dimensions, transportation restrictions and access arrangements may need to be considered before any purchase can proceed.
Requesting an evaluation does not guarantee an island purchase, ferry reservation or collection arrangement.
Your town is not listed? You may still submit an inquiry. RVBuyerUSA evaluates RVs across Massachusetts and all 50 states. Provide the ZIP code where the vehicle is currently located.
For RVs outside Massachusetts, visit our Nationwide RV Buying Locations page.
