DIRECT RV PURCHASE INQUIRIES

Explore a Direct RV Sale in Portland

A recreational vehicle can be valuable to its owner while still being difficult to sell privately. It may require repairs, take up valuable storage space or be parked somewhere that makes individual buyer viewings inconvenient.

RVBuyerUSA offers Portland-area owners another option to explore. Instead of starting with a public advertisement, you can provide information about your RV for an individual direct purchase review.

We have been buying RVs since 2008 and consider purchase inquiries nationwide. Most requests come from private owners, although dealership inquiries are welcome.

An RV’s mechanical condition, ownership status and physical location all matter. A motorhome parked at a residence in St. Johns presents different practical questions from a fifth wheel stored at a secured facility outside the city.

These details help determine whether further consideration may be possible. Submitting the form does not guarantee an offer, and you are not required to accept any offer made.

An Alternative to Advertising

Selling privately can involve photographs, listings, buyer questions and several appointments. A direct purchase inquiry allows you to explore one possible buyer before deciding whether to advertise or pursue another selling method.

A Review Based on the Actual RV

An accurate description matters more than presenting the RV as flawless. Explain its known condition, title status and any circumstances that could complicate transport.

Your Choice to Proceed

If an offer becomes available, review the proposed price, paperwork and collection arrangements before deciding. An inquiry is not a purchase agreement, and the decision to accept remains yours.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR RV

What Helps Us Evaluate Your Portland RV?

The RV’s model identifies what it is. Its current condition and circumstances explain what a potential transaction might involve.

You can start with the required form fields, then use the optional message to explain anything unusual. You do not need to prepare a detailed mechanical inspection or attempt repairs before sending an inquiry.

Year, Make and Model

Provide the model year, manufacturer and model name or number.

If known, include the approximate length, floorplan, number of slide-outs and major equipment. Mileage is relevant for motorhomes, while hitch design and running-gear condition are more relevant to towable RVs.

Current Mechanical Condition

For motorhomes, say whether the engine starts and whether the RV has been driven recently. Mention known problems involving the transmission, brakes, steering, tires or electrical systems.

For trailers and fifth wheels, report concerns involving the hitch, brakes, axles, wheels, suspension or landing gear.

Roof and Interior Condition

Describe visible roof damage, leaks, soft flooring, stains, broken windows, plumbing problems or appliances that do not work.

If you have not tested a system recently, identify it as untested rather than assuming it operates.

Damage and Repair History

Mention collision damage, previous water intrusion, major repairs and incomplete work.

You can explain whether maintenance records are available without sending sensitive paperwork through the form.

If an earlier repair did not solve the original problem, include that information.

Title and Ownership Status

Tell us whether the RV has a title, whether a loan remains and whether there are known ownership complications.

You can also identify a salvage brand, missing title or multiple listed owners.

These matters may need clarification before a transaction can proceed.

RV Location and Accessibility

Provide the ZIP code where the vehicle is physically stored.

Describe whether it is parked in a driveway, garage, side yard, storage facility, RV park or repair shop.

Mention gates, narrow access, low overhead clearance, damaged tires or anything else that could prevent ordinary movement.

A ZIP code alone cannot describe the access conditions of every property.

For general information about vehicle value factors, see Value My RV.

RV TYPES WE CONSIDER

Motorhomes, Campers and Towable RVs

RVBuyerUSA considers several categories of motorized and towable recreational vehicles. These may include older RVs and vehicles requiring repairs.

Each inquiry is reviewed individually. Listing a type below does not mean every vehicle in that category will qualify for purchase.

Class A Motorhomes

Class A motorhomes can have complex mechanical and residential systems.

Useful information includes the engine and fuel type, mileage, overall length, roof condition, leveling equipment and slide-outs.

A motorhome that cannot start or cannot be driven safely should be described accordingly. Its movement limitations may be important to a potential purchase.

Class B Motorhomes and Camper Vans

Camper vans combine a road vehicle with compact living equipment.

Explain the base vehicle’s mileage, driving condition and major conversion features. Electrical modifications, battery equipment, water systems and alterations to the original interior can help describe the unit.

For custom conversions, identify major features you know about and which systems have not been tested.

Class C Motorhomes

Class C motorhomes have a cab-based chassis and a connected living structure.

Provide the driving condition and mileage, along with information about the roof, sidewalls and interior.

If present, describe damage around the cab-over section or roof joints, since those areas are part of the vehicle’s structural condition.

Travel Trailers

A travel trailer’s condition includes both its living space and the equipment that allows it to be towed.

Describe its approximate length, hitch components, brakes, tires, axles, flooring and roof.

If the trailer has been stationary for an extended period, say when it last moved and whether the towing equipment has been inspected recently.

Fifth Wheels

Fifth wheels require suitable hitch access and functioning support equipment for ordinary towing.

Tell us about the pin box, landing gear, frame, wheels, suspension and slide-outs.

If the front of the RV is difficult to reach, the landing gear is damaged or the unit has settled into its storage location, mention these circumstances.

Toy Haulers

Toy haulers include a cargo area designed to accommodate recreational equipment or other loads.

Describe the ramp door, cargo flooring, garage layout and installed equipment. Explain any known damage affecting the cargo area.

For towable toy haulers, hitch and running-gear condition remain important.

Truck Campers and Other RVs

Truck campers and specialty RVs may also be submitted for consideration.

Explain whether the camper is currently mounted on a truck, stored on supports or otherwise separated from its transport vehicle.

Include the general configuration, condition and any equipment needed for safe loading or movement.

CONDITION AND MOBILITY

Can You Submit a Damaged or Non-Running RV in Portland?

Yes. RVBuyerUSA may consider RVs with mechanical problems, water damage, exterior deterioration or non-running conditions.

An inquiry is still reviewed individually. Some vehicles may not be suitable for purchase because of their condition, ownership circumstances or transportation requirements.

The most useful distinction is not simply whether an RV is described as running. It is what the RV can actually do and what has been inspected.

An RV That Starts and Drives

Tell us when the vehicle was last driven and whether you know of any operating problems.

A motorhome that moved recently may still have worn tires, braking concerns or other defects. Do not describe it as fully roadworthy unless that is supported by its condition.

A Motorhome That Starts but Should Not Be Driven

An operating engine does not resolve problems with brakes, steering, tires or suspension.

If you know the motorhome should not be driven, explain why. Do not attempt a road test simply to prepare a purchase request.

A Motorhome That Does Not Start

Describe when it last ran and any known symptoms.

An RV with an electrical starting problem may have different movement limitations from one with damaged mechanical components.

If the cause is unknown, that is useful information too.

A Trailer That Cannot Be Towed Normally

Describe damaged or missing wheels, tires, axles, brakes, hitch components or support equipment.

For a fifth wheel, include problems with the landing gear or access to the hitch area.

A trailer with a sound interior may still need significant attention before it can be moved.

Water Damage or Deterioration

Report observed roof leaks, damaged seals, damp flooring, wall deterioration, delamination and previous repairs.

Do not assume an RV has moisture damage because it is stored in Portland. Describe the condition of your particular vehicle.

An RV Parked for Several Years

Long-term storage can leave the condition of tires, batteries, brakes and other systems uncertain.

Explain when the RV last moved, what has been maintained and what remains untested.

There is no need to operate unsafe equipment or move the vehicle to make an initial inquiry.

Free towing is included only with an agreed purchase. RVBuyerUSA does not guarantee a purchase, collection or standalone removal service from an initial inquiry.

PORTLAND MUNICIPAL INFORMATION

Portland RV Parking Rules That May Affect Your Selling Plans

Where you park or display an RV can affect how you prepare it for sale.

The City of Portland has rules for recreational vehicle parking on public streets, vehicle sale displays, residential parking locations and the storage of disabled vehicles.

These are Portland municipal requirements. They should not automatically be applied to Beaverton, Gresham, Vancouver or the entire Portland metropolitan area.

Displaying an RV for Sale on Public Property

Portland City Code Section 16.20.150 prohibits parking a vehicle on a street or other public property for the principal purpose of displaying it for sale.

For an owner considering a private listing, this means a public street should not be treated as a sales display lot.

You can still explore ways to sell the RV, but any parking arrangement or viewing location must comply with applicable rules.

Read Portland City Code 16.20.150.

RV Parking Near Residential Property, Parks, Churches and Schools

Portland City Code Section 16.20.120 H restricts parking certain vehicles, including recreational vehicles and specified trailers, in public rights-of-way adjacent to or directly across from residential, public park, church or school property.

The section includes specific exceptions. One concerns a recreational vehicle being serviced, loaded or unloaded for a period not exceeding eight hours.

That exception is not permission to park any RV on any street for eight hours. The nature of the activity and the actual location matter.

The section also provides for certain authorized parking near public parks.

Read Portland City Code 16.20.120.

RV Parking Near Commercial and Industrial Property

Section 16.20.120 I separately addresses certain vehicles parked in public rights-of-way adjacent to or directly across from commercial or industrial property.

The code contains a daytime exception between 6:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. for a period not exceeding four hours. It also contains a separate, narrower exception involving certain overnight business operations and loading or unloading.

These conditions differ from the residential-area rules. Owners should review the applicable subsection rather than relying on a general RV parking assumption.

Official source: Portland City Code 16.20.120.

Motorhomes and Trailers on Residential Property

Portland’s residential parking guidance identifies allowed parking areas for particular categories of motorhomes, utility trailers and accessory recreational vehicles.

For the categories described in that guidance, vehicles may be parked in allowed areas but not between the front lot line and the building line.

Other requirements can depend on the property, parking-space location and vehicle classification.

A driveway or side yard should not be assumed compliant solely because the RV fits physically.

Before relocating an RV on residential property, check the actual address and current city requirements.

Official source: Portland Driveways, Parking and Garages for Homes.

Outdoor Storage of Disabled Vehicles

Portland City Code Section 29.20.010 restricts storage of a disabled vehicle for more than seven days, subject to stated exceptions.

The code includes exceptions involving storage within a legally permitted building or storage by an appropriately licensed business dealing in junked vehicles.

A disabled vehicle is defined by the city’s property maintenance regulations, including a vehicle that is or appears inoperative, wrecked, dismantled or partially dismantled.

Not every RV needing a repair necessarily meets that definition. An owner should check the actual condition and applicable rule.

Official source: Portland City Code 29.20.010.

Check the Jurisdiction and Property

Portland extends across portions of Multnomah, Clackamas and Washington Counties.

A mailing address or nearby neighborhood name may not answer every zoning or jurisdictional question.

Use PortlandMaps for property information and consult the authority responsible for the RV’s actual location when necessary.

A vehicle stored in another municipality may be subject to different rules.

PRACTICAL VEHICLE ACCESS

What Portland Owners Should Check Before an Agreed RV Pickup

A potential buyer needs to understand more than where an RV is parked on a map.

Access can depend on vehicle size, the space around it, property permissions and whether the RV can be driven or towed safely.

These details do not establish that pickup will be available. They help identify questions that may need to be resolved before an agreed transaction.

Residential Driveways and Side Yards

Consider the route between the RV and the street.

Gates, overhead branches, carports, fences, tight turns and changes in grade may limit available space.

For a towable RV, the area around the hitch is important. For a motorhome, its ability to turn or move safely may matter more.

Secured Storage Facilities

If the RV is stored behind a gate, explain whether entry requires an appointment, owner authorization or facility staff assistance.

Mention relevant access hours, known unpaid storage charges or release procedures.

Do not provide gate codes or security credentials in the initial inquiry.

RV Parks and Repair Facilities

An RV parked at a campground, repair shop or managed property may be subject to facility rules or outstanding charges.

Identify who has authority to release the vehicle and whether it can be moved from its present space.

A purchase inquiry does not override the rights of the property owner, repair business or other parties.

Large Motorhomes

Provide approximate length and height when possible.

If the vehicle cannot be driven, mention whether it rolls, steers and brakes, or whether the condition is unknown.

Access for suitable transport equipment may require individual consideration.

Travel Trailers and Fifth Wheels

Describe whether a tow vehicle can reach the hitch and whether the trailer sits on usable tires and support equipment.

A damaged axle, defective landing gear or blocked hitch area may affect the feasibility of ordinary movement.

Do not attempt to tow an unsafe trailer.

Tight Urban Parking and Uneven Property Access

A vehicle parked in a constrained lot or behind other vehicles may require a different access plan from one in an open storage yard.

Likewise, a steep driveway, soft ground or other obstruction may affect movement.

Provide the actual circumstances without assuming collection will be possible.

Useful location details include the RV’s ZIP code, approximate dimensions, parking arrangement, movement status, access restrictions and the person authorized to release it.

HOW THE PROCESS WORKS

Five Stages of a Possible RV Purchase

A free inquiry, an individual review, a proposed offer and a completed transaction are separate events.

Here is how a possible direct RV sale may progress.

1. Share Your RV Information

Provide your name, contact information, RV location and vehicle identification details.

Use the optional message to report important condition, ownership or access questions.

The inquiry is free, and submitting it does not commit you to selling.

2. Individual Purchase Review

RVBuyerUSA considers the information provided to determine whether the RV may be suitable for a direct purchase.

Not every submission will qualify for an offer.

There is no automatic guaranteed appraisal, purchase price or response deadline.

3. Clarify Additional Details

If necessary, further information may be requested concerning the vehicle, photographs, title, lien, condition or parking arrangements.

An inspection may be appropriate in some circumstances.

Do not send sensitive ownership documents through an unapproved communication method.

4. Consider Any Proposed Offer

If an offer is made, evaluate the price and conditions.

Confirm how payment would work, which documents are necessary and what would be involved in transferring possession.

You may accept or decline.

If an offer cannot be made, the inquiry does not become a purchase agreement and does not entitle the owner to collection.

5. Complete an Agreed Sale

If both parties decide to proceed, the transaction must address ownership documents, lienholder interests where applicable, payment and vehicle release.

Collection arrangements also need to reflect the RV’s actual location and condition.

Free towing is included with an agreed purchase.

Visit Our Process for additional information.

OREGON SELLER REQUIREMENTS

Oregon RV Titles and Paperwork for Portland Owners

Selling an RV involves a legal transfer of ownership.

Oregon DMV provides the official requirements for ordinary vehicle sales and title changes. If your RV has an out-of-state title, an unusual classification or unresolved financing, additional details may affect the transaction.

The following points are a practical starting place. For more extensive state guidance, visit Sell My RV in Oregon.

Confirm the Ownership Document

Check that the title identifies the correct RV and matches its vehicle identification number.

For an ordinary sale, Oregon DMV instructs sellers to sign and date the title or appropriate bill of sale.

Review whether all relevant ownership interests have been released.

Official source: Oregon DMV Buying or Selling a Vehicle.

Resolve Outstanding Liens

If a loan remains, contact the lender about its payoff procedure and required release.

Oregon DMV states that a vehicle cannot be sold while an outstanding loan remains unpaid.

An RV with financing can be submitted for an initial inquiry, but any completed sale must properly address the lender’s rights.

Check Lost Titles and Odometer Requirements

If the title is missing, check the applicable Oregon DMV replacement or transfer procedure.

Odometer disclosure generally applies to model year 2011 or newer vehicles that are less than 20 years old, subject to exemptions.

Non-self-propelled vehicles such as trailers are exempt. Other exemptions include vehicles over 16,000 pounds manufacturer’s gross vehicle weight rating.

The exact requirements should be checked for the particular motorhome or RV.

Official source: Oregon DMV Odometer Disclosure.

Report the Sale to Oregon DMV

Oregon requires sellers to notify DMV within 10 days after a vehicle sale.

The notice must include the buyer’s name and address. The DMV record may continue listing the seller until the buyer transfers title.

Keep appropriate records and confirm the notification has been submitted.

Official source: Oregon DMV Selling Instructions.

Identify Branded or Unusual Titles

A salvage or other title brand can be important to a potential buyer.

Some severely damaged vehicles may have special restrictions affecting title issuance or transfer.

If the RV has a branded title or unusual ownership document, disclose that fact and consult Oregon DMV before assuming an ordinary transfer procedure applies.

COMPARE YOUR OPTIONS

Four Ways to Sell an RV in Portland

There is no single selling method that fits every RV owner.

Time available, condition, expected selling price, storage arrangements and the amount of work you want to handle can influence your choice.

Private Sale

A private listing gives you control over the advertised price and buyer negotiations.

It also means creating the listing, communicating with potential buyers, scheduling viewings and managing the transaction.

For a damaged or difficult-to-move RV, explaining its condition and arranging access may require additional effort.

A private listing does not guarantee a buyer or a particular price.

Consignment

An RV consignment business may advertise and show your RV under a contractual arrangement.

Before agreeing, review commissions, contract length, storage costs, insurance requirements and any preparation or transportation charges.

Ask what happens if the vehicle does not sell and who controls changes to the asking price.

Dealer Trade-In

A trade-in may be useful when replacing an existing RV with another one.

Consider the value assigned to your RV together with the price, financing and conditions of the replacement transaction.

A trade-in allowance and a standalone direct purchase offer may not be directly comparable.

Direct Purchase Inquiry

With a direct purchase inquiry, you provide your RV information to a prospective buyer without first arranging a public listing.

RVBuyerUSA considers eligible vehicles individually. An offer, if available, may differ from a private asking price or consignment target.

You can examine the proposal and decline it without obligation.

For more information, visit Value My RV.

PORTLAND AREA COVERAGE

Portland Neighborhoods and Nearby Communities

RVBuyerUSA considers purchase inquiries from owners in Portland and other communities nationwide.

For an individual review, the RV’s actual location is more important than whether its mailing address is described as Portland-area.

Portland municipal rules apply within the appropriate city jurisdiction. Nearby communities may have separate parking, zoning and property regulations.

North and Northeast Portland

St. Johns, Kenton, Overlook, Hayden Island, Hollywood and Parkrose are among the Portland neighborhoods where owners may have different residential, commercial or managed-storage arrangements.

A vehicle in a driveway may have different access conditions from one in a secured lot.

Describe the actual parking situation instead of assuming a neighborhood determines how an RV can be collected.

Southeast Portland

Montavilla, Lents and Sellwood-Moreland include a variety of property and parking settings.

A travel trailer behind a residential gate may have limited hitch access, while a motorhome in an open parking area may present different movement questions.

These are examples of possible parking situations, not claims about any specific RV or property.

Northwest and Southwest Portland

The Northwest District, Pearl District, Hillsdale and Multnomah Village are relevant Portland neighborhoods.

When describing an RV in these areas, mention parking-space dimensions, driveway access or facility restrictions where applicable.

A neighborhood name alone does not establish whether a motorhome or trailer is legally parked.

Nearby Oregon Cities

Beaverton, Hillsboro, Tigard, Tualatin, Gresham, Troutdale, Milwaukie, Lake Oswego, Happy Valley and Oregon City are separate municipalities.

Owners in these communities may submit inquiries, but Portland municipal parking rules should not be presented as applying automatically to their properties.

Use the correct city and actual RV ZIP code.

Across the Columbia River in Washington

Vancouver and Camas are Washington communities in the wider Portland metropolitan region.

Owners may submit RV purchase inquiries, but Washington ownership requirements can differ from Oregon’s.

If an RV is physically located in Washington, identify its location and title state accurately.

For broader locations information, visit Sell My RV Nationwide.

PORTLAND RV SELLING FAQ

Questions Portland RV Owners Often Need Answered

Portland City Code Section 16.20.150 prohibits parking a vehicle on a street or other public property principally to display it for sale. Other parking restrictions may also apply. If you plan to sell privately, arrange lawful parking and buyer viewings rather than using public property as an RV sales lot.

Portland allows certain motorhomes and recreational vehicles in specified residential parking areas, subject to placement and other restrictions. Its guidance restricts the affected vehicle categories from parking between the front lot line and building line. Check your property’s zoning, vehicle classification and actual parking area before assuming a driveway location is permitted.

The city’s RV parking code contains a limited exception for certain servicing, loading or unloading activities lasting no more than eight hours in locations covered by Section 16.20.120 H. That is not a general eight-hour parking permission throughout Portland. Other restrictions and separate commercial or industrial provisions may apply.

Yes. Provide the physical ZIP code and explain any gate, appointment, owner-authorization or release restrictions. Do not submit access codes. If a purchase is agreed, any collection must be coordinated with the facility and other authorized parties.

Such RVs may be submitted for individual consideration. Explain when the RV last moved, what mechanical problems are known and whether it can roll, steer or be towed safely. Not every vehicle will qualify for purchase, and an inquiry does not guarantee pickup.

Describe the actual damage and storage condition. Portland Code Section 29.20.010 contains restrictions affecting vehicles that meet the city’s disabled-vehicle definition, with certain storage exceptions. If the regulation may apply, check your situation with the city. A purchase inquiry does not automatically resolve a property code issue.

No, not automatically. Those are separate municipalities, and Vancouver is in Washington. Check the rules of the authority responsible for the RV’s actual parking location. RVBuyerUSA can consider inquiries from those communities without treating Portland City Code as their municipal law.

You can describe the financed RV in an inquiry. However, Oregon DMV states that a vehicle cannot be sold while an outstanding loan remains unpaid. Any eventual transaction must address payoff and lien release. Submitting the form does not authorize or complete a transfer.

Oregon generally requires sellers to notify DMV within 10 days after a vehicle sale. The notice includes the buyer’s name and address. Requirements for the title and any applicable odometer disclosure must also be addressed. Consult Oregon DMV for your specific transaction.

The purchase inquiry is free, and you do not have to accept an offer. If RVBuyerUSA agrees to purchase your RV, free towing is included with that agreed purchase. An inquiry does not guarantee an offer, payment deadline or pickup, and towing is not a standalone removal service.

Additional information is available in the RV Selling FAQ. For general questions, visit Contact RVBuyerUSA.
